Specialist insurer Hiscox and insurtech firm Send Technology have both announced senior leadership appointments aimed at strengthening operations and supporting future growth.
Hiscox has appointed Harriet Hanna (pictured above, left) as chief operating officer of Hiscox Syndicates Ltd (HSL), its Lloyd’s of London managing agent, subject to regulatory approval.
HSL provides underwriting capacity to several Hiscox business units, including Hiscox London Market.
Hanna will step into the role in September 2025, replacing Adam Rushin, who is retiring after more than 25 years with Hiscox. She brings over 20 years of experience in technology and financial services, including senior positions at Royal Bank of Scotland, Barclays, and Amazon. Most recently, she was chief operations officer at Funding Circle Ltd.
In her new role, Hanna will oversee HSL’s operational capabilities and ensure all syndicate activities comply with service standards and regulatory requirements. She will also lead the operations and change teams within the London Market business.
Based in London, Hanna will report to Hiscox London Market CEO Kate Markham and sit on both the London Market leadership team and the HSL board.
Commenting on the appointment, Markham said that Hanna’s experience in areas such as digital, data and AI aligns with Hiscox’s priorities as it continues to scale and modernise. She also acknowledged Rushin’s tenure, highlighting his leadership across the company and his decade-long contribution to the London Market business.
Insurtech firm Send has appointed Will Sparkes (pictured above, right) as its new chief people officer. Sparkes will lead the development of the company’s talent strategy, with a focus on supporting its international, remote-first team as the business scales.
Sparkes has held senior HR roles at companies including Informa, Metlife and various high-growth technology firms. At Send, he will be responsible for establishing performance frameworks and development pathways aligned with the company’s expansion plans.
CEO Andy Moss said the appointment reflects Send’s commitment to reinforcing its collaborative culture while introducing structured growth initiatives. Sparkes said he looks forward to building on the company’s existing employee-focused foundations to help staff develop and thrive.
Send’s underwriting platform, designed for the commercial and specialty insurance markets, automates manual processes and supports over £30 billion in gross written premium through AI-enabled technology.
